WILHELM VON GLOEDEN - OTTONE GELENG

It is an elegant suite of 40 sq.m, divided into three environments and embellished with lovely Sicilian furniture and local handicraft, with Murano chandeliers and much more… and precious thanks to a flooring made of red marble from Taormina, today so rare. The elegant curtains as well as the whole tapestry of the house, are made by a famous artisan Sicilian. Colours chosen for its bathroom are red and white and it stands out for beautiful handmade ceramic tiles. Windows and space are soundproof. The suite overlooks Corso Umberto, with four windows facing the sea. Access to the room and the house is via swipe card.

This suite is dedicated to the German baron photographer who immortalized since 1878 the beauty of Taormina and its people, spreading his works throughout Europe and making know this little paradise to Emperor William II, who chose Taormina as his little “refuge”.

Von Gloeden is buried in Taormina next to the German painter Ottone Geleng, which spread the views of Taormina throughout Europe. The opening of the first hotel in Taormina, the old Timeo, in 1864, is due to him, and so the beginning of tourism in Taormina.
